It's been a busy month for the Genitals.
The July 5th El Cid show was wildly successful. It was such a a phenomenal lineup. Linister, Las Panches, Zoe Moss, Eric Layer, Addi the balloon guy. Special thanks to Jeff on skins and Michael Anderson for making it all happen. Did I mention I absolutely adore Linister? They asked me to come up and do a song with them and that was a dream come true. I hope they ask again.
Some days later we played The Brewery benefit for Ian Ungsten. By most accounts, this show should have been a disaster. The room was easily over 100 degrees and had absolutely no air conditioning. The band went on late. There was no sound system. Juli, Lisa and their guitars were forced to share a single microphone plugged into a guitar amplifier. The lighting was cold and factory flourescent. No chairs. It was ramshackle. It was beautiful. It was necessary. Thankfully, we hadn't forgotten why we were there. We made due with what little we had and, against the odds, blew the roof off that joint. The crowd stayed for the entire performance. Some felt it was our best show ever. Best of all, the benefit raised a good chunk of change for Ian. Someday I'd like to meet that fella.
